The first national missing persons conference, jointly hosted by the National Policing Improvement Agency's (NPIA) Missing Persons Bureau and the charity Missing People, is to be held on 29 & 30 April 2009 at NPIA, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry.
The conference is a must for practitioners and policy-makers dealing with the issue of missing people. Organisers are keen to attract delegates from police, social services and not-for-profits.
The conference will take the format of speakers and workshops and topics include: the latest findings on the impacts on families of a disappearance; honour-based disappearances; runaways' online exploitation.
Joe Apps, Manager of the Missing Persons Bureau, said: "This annual event is one of the few opportunities where professionals from across the 'missing' spectrum are able to get together to share experiences, knowledge and best practice."
Tickets for the two-day conference are priced at £195 to include accommodation and evening meal. If you would like more information on attending the conference or sponsorship opportunities available, please email

About NPIA
NPIA is a single national organisation created to support effective policing. It provides expertise in areas as diverse as information and communications technology, support to information and intelligence sharing, core police processes, managing change and recruiting, developing and deploying people.
The organisation's creation in April 2007 streamlined and simplified the way that policing improvement is delivered locally and nationally. NPIA works for the police service and is governed by a tripartite board comprising ACPO, APA, Home Office and independent members. The ACPO President is a member of the NPIA Board.
About Missing People
Missing People is the UK's only charity that works with young runaways, missing and unidentified people, their families and others who care for them.
As well as actively searching for missing people and supporting those who are trying to find them, the charity offers three other services: Runaway Helpline (for young runaways), Message Home (for missing adults) and Identification (helping to resolve cases of unidentified people).
