Conference well attended and well received by forces.

The first Citizen Focus ACPO leads event was held in October and was attended by representatives from nearly every police force across the country.

The event, hosted by the Citizen Focus and Neighbourhood Policing Programme, was well received and as a result the NPIA will be hosting a further conference - 'Exploring and Understanding Confidence' - on the 27 February 2009 in Birmingham.

Presentations from Chief Constable Julie Spence as Head of the Business area, Richard Clarke from the Home Office Police Reform Unit and Joe Tuke from the newly formed Neighbourhood Crime and Justice Group were well received and generated challenging questions from the audience in respect of the Green Paper and the Casey Review.

Workshops were led by the ACPO Standards and Qualities Portfolio covering the Hallmarks for Citizen Focus and the NPIA Research, Analysis and Information (RAI) Team, who outlined their cultural analysis work.

A one page summary of the analysis of British Crime Survey public confidence data, completed by Andy Myhill from the RAI Team, was made available to delegates, with the full report due to be published later this year.

Feedback from delegates in relation to the organisation and content of the event was very positive with most finding the presentations useful and informative and welcoming the support being made available in terms of the Hallmarks, research and the cultural analysis work.

Understanding confidence was a key issue for many of the delegates and as a result the NPIA will be hosting a further conference exploring this issue in depth early in 2009. Other ACPO leads event took place on the 19 January 2009 at Ryton, when the results of current pilots and effective practice within forces were discussed.
